Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Voca Vela ("the Service"), a real-time speech- and photo-translation app operated by Voca Vela ("we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please don't use the Service.

1. The Service

Voca Vela translates spoken conversation between two languages in real time, suggests replies, reads translations aloud, translates text in photos, and lets you keep phrases and revisit past conversations. Translation, transcription, and speech are produced by automated systems and third-party providers (see the Privacy Policy).

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of digital consent in your country, to use the Service. By using it you confirm that you meet this requirement.

3. Your account

You can use the Service anonymously or create an account with an email address and password, or via Google sign-in. You're responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity under your account. Anonymous usage is tied to a device-local session.

4. Free use and paid plans

A free tier with hourly usage limits on live, photo, and text translation is included. Paid Premium plans (which lift those limits) are not yet available — no payment is currently taken. When paid plans launch, purchases and refunds will be governed by the Refund Policy. We may change the free limits over time.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to translate or process content you have no right to;
• record, transcribe, or translate other people without any consent the law where you are requires;
• abuse, overload, probe, or attempt to disrupt the Service or circumvent its usage limits;
• reverse-engineer, scrape, or resell the Service except where the law expressly permits it.

6. Accuracy — no reliance for critical use

Machine translation can be wrong, incomplete, or misleading. The Service is for everyday communication and is provided as is. Do not rely on it for medical, legal, financial, safety, or other high-stakes decisions. Always seek a qualified human translator where accuracy is essential.

7. Your content

You keep ownership of the audio, text, photos, and phrases you put into the Service ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited licence to process Your Content solely to operate and improve the Service — for example, sending your speech to a transcription provider, or storing a conversation transcript so you can revisit it. We don't sell Your Content. How Your Content is handled is described in the Privacy Policy.

8. Intellectual property

The Service itself — its software, design, and brand (including the Voca Vela name and wordmark) — belongs to us and our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property law. These Terms grant you no rights in it beyond ordinary use of the Service.

9. Third-party services

The Service depends on third parties for translation, speech, hosting, authentication, and analytics. Your use of the Service is also subject to those providers' terms, and we're not responsible for their acts or omissions.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms or to protect the Service or other users. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (such as sections 6 through 12) will survive.

11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of translations. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from reliance on a translation. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Where you have mandatory consumer-protection rights in your country of residence, nothing here removes them.

13. Changes

We may update these Terms. When we make material changes we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, give notice in the app. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
